With centers in Anaheim, California, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Florida, the programs attempt to remain widely accessible. Also offered by the foundation is the Earl Woods Scholarship Program which is focused on counselling and mentoring students for college as well as providing scholarships and internships. Recipients of the programs are successfully engaged in education programs at Georgetown, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA and Harvard.
Woods himself was born in Cypress, California on December 30, 1975, and raised by Earl Woods who is a retired US Army lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and Kultida Woods who was born in Thailand. Eldrick earned his famous nickname because he reminded his father of a friend in Vietnam that also was called Tiger. Tiger showed an interest in golf when he was still an infant by watching his father practicing his own swing and hitting balls into a net. Tiger started mimicking him and it only got better from there. He made an appearance on the Mike Douglas Show when he was only 2 years old and got to putt with celebrity golf enthusiast Bob Hope. At three years old, he shot a 48 on nine holes and was scored an article in Golf Digest when he was only 5 years old. By the time he was fifteen years old, Tiger had already accumulated six tournament championships for the Optimist International Junior event.
